Gail began his career with Louisiana Farm Bureau Insurance Companies in 1984 as an agent in North Louisiana. Gail received his degree in Business Administration from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. After going through The Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) in college, he entered the Army and served in Vietnam, where he was later honorably discharged as a Captain.
In 1990, Gail became Vice President of Sales for Louisiana Farm Bureau Insurance Companies. He always felt that education gave him an edge and instilled that philosophy in his agency force. Gail earned his CLU® and ChFC® designations from The American College and feels they were a differentiator in his career.
During his tenure as State Sales Manager and Vice President of Sales, Gail has frequently been a speaker on leadership, particularly for the insurance industry. During his time as Vice President of Sales, his leadership team has lead the state sales organization to be the leading life producing state in their 11 state organization. They have consistently been highest in premium and volume per agent in the last ten years. During his tenure, he has actively promoted the CLU® designation, working with the American College to do onsite schooling, sending agents to The College and promoting self-study. During the last ten years, his 240-person agency force has produced over 20 CLU® designees. By promoting education and needs awareness, his agency force has placed over $10 billion in life insurance now in force. His proudest achievement was leading his agency force through the effects of Rita and Katrina and servicing the 150,000 members during that trying time. Gail helped lead his agents as they serviced claims and needs and came out a much stronger organization.
In July 2012, Gail retired and is now able to enjoy the ample rewards from a great career. He now resides in St. Francisville, Lousiana and plans on writing a book and pursuing photography.
One of the pleasures of his career was seeing his daughter enter the insurance business and become successful. Although he is retired, he is still involved and looking through another’s eyes at the benefits of this great industry.
For his dedication to The American College, the financial services industry, professional education, and his community, The American College is proud to honor Gail Chisum, CLU®, ChFC®, as the Alumnus of the Month for September 2012.
