as the April 2012 Alumnus of the Month
Joe Kelley has recently been named President of Trilogy Insurance and Financial Services. Trilogy is one of the largest privately held software companies in the world, and for over 15 years, the Insurance & Financial Services business has helped the largest carriers and brokerages improve the effectiveness of their producer channels. Trilogy's flagship product, Distribution Channel Management (DCM), is widely recognized as the leading sales performance management solution in the insurance industry. Trilogy's newest product, SmartSpend, uses advanced statistical modeling combined with a massive historical database of producer performance to accurately predict future producer performance.
Prior to joining Versata, Kelley has had a remarkable career in the insurance industry. After graduating with letters in football and baseball, from the University of Alabama, Kelley began his career as a life insurance agent with the Prudential Insurance Company of America. Here he qualified for MDRT, and over the next 24 years Mr. Kelley assumed positions of increasing responsibility including Chief Marketing Officer as well as Senior Vice President of Prudential Preferred Financial Services.
Kelley joined American General in 1994 as Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. He was named President of American General Life and Accident Insurance Company in July, 1995, became Chairman and Chief Executive Officer in 1997, and retired in September 2001.
A recognized national leader in the insurance industry; Kelley has served on the Marketing Issues Committee of LIMRA International and the Board of Trustees of the Life Underwriter Training Council (LUTC).
Kelley is also past Chairman of the Presidents Advisory committee of the University of Alabama and past Vice Chairman of the Crimson Tradition Fund. In 2000 he received the "Distinguished American Award" from the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame and was the recipient of the Paul W. Bryant Alumni-Athlete Award. He is also past member of the Board of Governors for Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce and past Chairman of Easter Seals Nashvillian of the Year Award, past Chairman United Way of Middle Tennessee, and past Chairman and current member of the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Music City Bowl and the Nashville Sports Council.
Kelley has served 3 terms on The American College Board of Trustees and 3 terms on The College's Foundation Board of Directors.
