Louis P. DiCerbo II
In December 2010, we are pleased and honored to recognize Louis P. DiCerbo II, CLU®, ChFC®, as our Alumnus of the Month. Mr. DiCerbo is The American College’s most decorated alumnus having been selected as the first inductee into The Alumni Hall of Fame in 2005 and receiving our highest honor, the Huebner Gold Medal in 2007. He is the only person to receive both of these prestigious honors.
Mr. DiCerbo became the manager of the New York agency of Penn Mutual in 1967. The agency ranked 76th out of 100 in the Penn Mutual organization, generating only one-third of the income needed to meet expenses and break-even. Within 10 years, under Mr. DiCerbo’s guidance, the New York agency became the number 1 agency for Penn Mutual and stayed there for more than 19 consecutive years.
Mr. DiCerbo’s years of investment and insurance success prompted Penn Mutual to establish the Financial Consultant of the Year award in his honor. Thanks to Mr. DiCerbo’s commitment to professionalism, ethics and continuing education, he recruited and encouraged over 64 of his colleagues to pursue and complete their designation studies through The American College.
Mr. DiCerbo is an excellent leader. His leadership style can be described as “Leadership by Example” when Penn Mutual purchased Janney Montgomery Scott, the company tapped Mr. DiCerbo to manage the first merged branch of the organization. His organization led Penn Mutual in insurance and investment sales for 20 of 21 years. He won the first “Blue Chip” award at Horner Townsend and Kent for investments and in 2004 personally led the Penn Mutual career force in Gross Dealer Concession (GDC).
His service to The College is awe inspiring. He served as a Trustee for six years, and currently serves as an active member of the Foundation Board. Mr. DiCerbo and his wife, E. Patricia DiCerbo, have made many programs and events possible at The College, including the 2007 President’s Circle Dinner. They also generously match the gifts of any College employee who would like to become a member of the President’s Circle. Beginning in 2009, Mr. DiCerbo started making leadership gifts which brought The Wealth Channel Magazine to life, and thanks to his generosity, 40,000+ alumni have been receiving our top-quality magazine ever since. He Co-chaired the Charles E. Drimal Estate Planning Professorship and supported the John P. Grimes reception foyer. He chaired the Golden Key Society at The College, raising almost $5 million for the organization. Mr. DiCerbo’s New York agency had, at one time, more Golden Key contributors than any other agency in the United States.
In service to the profession, Mr. DiCerbo led the New York City Life Underwriters Association and was a member of the GAMA Board of Directors. He received the prestigious GAMA International Management Hall of Fame award on March 27, 1995. Mr. DiCerbo also donates his time generously to charitable endeavors. He is a member of the Board of Regents at Ave Marie University. He was Vice Chairman of the Board of the National Hypertension Association and sponsors world-class medical lectures in pediatric critical care for doctors at Schneider Children’s Hospital. In 1998, the Boy Scouts of America inducted him into the Rough Riders. In addition, Mr. DiCerbo has received numerous awards including the Julian S. Myrick Award and the Torch of Liberty Award from New York City’s Anti-Defamation League. He has received the distinguished alumnus award from Saint Francis University in Loretto, Pennsylvania.
Lou DiCerbo is a model professional, whose legacy will inspire people personally and professionally for generations to come. He is a champion of Dr. Huebner’s values and someone who has done more than his part to ensure their lasting impact on our noble profession.
