James Shagawat is a Wealth Management Principal with the Baron Financial Group in Fair Lawn, New Jersey. Jim is a recipient of the 2013 Five Star Wealth Manager Award, the fourth year in a row he has received this honor, and the Women’s Choice Award® for Financial Advisors, a premier recognition award for advisors who provide quality service to their female clients. The award is based on rigorous research and evaluation applying 17 objective criteria.
Jim completed the Certified Financial Planner® program in 2013 and the Chartered Financial Consultant® program in 2012, both through The American College.
Jim is a graduate of Rutgers University Graduate School of Management and William Paterson University. He received his Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) with concentrations in finance and marketing. Jim was the recipient of numerous academic awards and scholarships during his studies.
Before his affiliation with Baron, Jim worked at the senior level in finance at several Fortune 500 companies, including Bertelsmann Music Group and Pearson Education.
Jim’s expertise is called upon by the media and journalists, appearing in such national publications as The Wall Street Journal, Smart Money Magazine, Bottom Line, Bloomberg, and Dow Jones Newswire and on broadcast television, including PBS' Nightly Business Report. Jim is also an award-winning composer of soundtrack music. His music has been heard internationally on television and radio. He is a member of The National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA), The Greater New Jersey Estate Planning Council, Estate Planning Council of Bergen County, the Financial Planning Association, and the Rutgers Alumni Association. He has also served on the board of the Boys & Girls Club of Clifton.
