David F. Woods

David F. Woods began his career in 1961in the Home Office of Fidelity and Guaranty Life Insurance Company. Since 1966, he has been an agent with Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company in Springfield, Massachusetts. From 1995 – 2007 he put his practice “on low heat” and served as president of the Life and Health Insurance Foundation for Education (LIFE) which he helped create. In 2003 he added the role of NAIFA Chief Executive and served in that dual capacity for 5 years. He formed Woods Financial Group in 1987 to provide insurance and other financial solutions to individuals and businesses and returned to his practice in 2008.
Woods' dedication to the industry was recognized in 1997 when he received the industry's highest honor, the John Newton Russell Memorial Award. He served as president of the National Association of Life Underwriters (now NAIFA) in 1986-1987. He is a former director of the Association for Advanced Life Underwriting (AALU).
Woods has been a member of the Million Dollar Round Table since 1970 and is a Silver Knight of the MDRT Foundation. He also served as a Trustee of the American College and is a member of its President's Circle. The author of numerous articles on life insurance, Woods has also made more than 100 presentations to insurance audiences in the United States and several other countries.
He currently records a weekly video commentary on The Wealth Channel of The American College.
From 2004 through 2010 he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Insurance Marketplace Standards Association (IMSA).
Woods has been very active in his Springfield, Massachusetts, community for many years. In addition to past service with a number of organizations, he served as Chairman of the Board of Baystate Health Systems, Inc., the third-largest health system in New England. He is currently a director of Baystate Health Insurance Company. He is the founder and current Chair of Leadership Pioneer Valley, an advanced regional leadership development program.
Woods is a graduate of Loyola University in Baltimore with a degree in economics. He served in the United States Air Force as a jet fighter pilot. He and his wife, Evie, have been married since 1958 and have four children and eight grandchildren.
