Chuck Wright, CLU®, ChFC®, CAP®, a past chairman of The American College Board of Trustees and beloved member of the State Farm community, passed away on Thursday, April 17th, 2014. Chuck spent 41 years with State Farm, beginning as an agent in Minneapolis, MN, in 1963. He retired in 2004 as Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Agency and Marketing Officer.
Chuck was a champion for financial services education. He was elected to The College’s Board of Trustees in 1997, and served the board as chairman, becoming a Life Trustee in 2005. Chuck also served The College’s Foundation Board of Directors and was instrumental in the creation of the State Farm Chair for Women and Financial Services at The American College, which laid the groundwork for the establishment of a Center in 2010.
Chuck was awarded The College’s highest honor, the Huebner Gold Medal, in 2004. Named for the institution’s founder, Dr. Solomon S. Huebner, the award recognizes the select individuals whose dedication to education and professionalism have been of particular importance to The College.
Chuck’s service to the industry also extended to the Life Underwriters Training Council, LIMRA International, and the Distribution Leaders Round Table. He became a Director of Horace Mann Educators Corp. in 2007. Chuck was active in many community organizations as well, serving as President of the Wheatridge Foundation, the Walther League, and the McLean County Historical Society in Bloomington, Ill., and as a member of the Board of Directors of Eureka College, Bro-Menn Hospital, the David Davis Mansion, the National Association for Professional Saleswomen, and the Illinois Insurance Guaranty Fund.
Visitation for Chuck will be held at Harvey-Engelhardt Funeral Home in Fort Myers, Florida on Tuesday, April 22, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on Wednesday April 23, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., with a brief service following. Chuck's family asks that you express condolences and share stories about Chuck on his memorial website, accessed via harvey-engelhardt.com. The family also requests that friends help them to celebrate Chuck's life on June 28 and 29, in Normal, Illinois at Heartland Community College, with details to follow on the website.
